I attempted to buy an Alessi item at significant cost from Ambiente Direct, trading online as ambientedirect.com. The order was confirmed and my credit card was charged in full the next day. Ambiente Direct stated that they would advise when the order was despatched and a tracking number would be sent.

After 2 weeks of nothing, I emailed their customer service department and received an automated email telling me that they were very busy and would respond soon. After 5 weeks of no reply and no advice whatever, I emailed again to receive the same automated reply.

After 7 weeks, I contacted my credit card company and advised them that I believed that the company might be fraudulent and I disputed the transaction. They are in the process of processing a disputed transaction and reversing the charge from Ambiente Direct's bank.

Never, never deal with this company. They are bad, bad, bad, and almost certainly fraudulent.

DO NOT CONSIDER BUYING ANYTHING AT ALL FROM AMBIENTE DIRECT! SHOP ELSEWHERE… ANYWHERE! If you’re reading this review because you made the same mistake as we did, by being drawn in by their web site and the associated ‘consumer guarantees’ and then made an order, you will have many questions and will be extremely frustrated. Yes, they lie. Yes, they don’t answer the telephone. Yes, they take all your money via advance payment. No, they won’t deliver your goods when expected or tell you when they will deliver them. Yes, you may think that you will get a refund if you complain or change your mind. They may promise to refund you but what will you do when they don’t comply? They will have your money so what do you think you can do about it? You can email the key people (the format is as follows: first name dot last name at ambientedirect dot com): Catherine Menard is their Director of Marketing & Communications. Sven Stubenrauch & Hans Schiessler are both Managing Directors.
