Tell us the story of your business. How did you come up with the idea, and what makes your company unique?
As a new mom, I was unable to work out as much as I used to prior to having a baby. Right after I had my baby, I used a postpartum belly belt to help get my stomach down. It definitely helped, but I realized that I needed something with a little more compression. I began wearing the Sport Belt that we sell while working out from home and I'd also wear the traditional waist trainer that we sell just around the house. The results were amazing and it really helped me snap back into my regular sized shirts. I knew that I had to offer the same thing to other moms and women who were in the same predicament as me or women who just wanted to reduce their waistlines. What makes Sleek Waist unique is that we sell waist garments, but we are also HUGE advocates of having a healthy lifestyle. You will see more of this in the future through our upcoming product line. Also, we aim to set Sleek Waist Boutique apart from other stores just like it by offering quality personalized service and affordable prices for the everyday woman.
Let’s talk about reviews. Did you have any initial reservations about asking your customers for reviews, and how do you feel about online reviews now?
Initially, I did have reservations about asking customers for reviews. When you first launch a business, it's like your baby and you don't want anyone saying negative things about something that you've spent so much time working on. However, I soon realized that in order for Sleek Waist to grow as a trusted brand, I needed reviews from customers to help others feel at ease with their decision to purchase from us. I also saw this as a great opportunity to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the company and how we could improve to better serve the customers.
What ShopVenture review feature do you like best and why?
I really like the Review Automation feature because it allows me to create an email template to send out to each of my customers asking for their honest feedback. I have the email set to go out 14 days after the customer places an order. It looks very professional and it has been a huge help with getting customers to leave a review for the store.
What are your top tips for other online store owners just starting out?
If you are looking to build a brand that will last for the long haul, learn everything you can about your customers. Find out what they like, what they don't, and don't be afraid to ask for their feedback - it is truly invaluable. You may have a business that sells the same thing as another online store, but you can set yourself apart from the rest by the way you treat your customers. They are the lifeline of your business.
